Information:
The rear differential is not sampled due to the inboard brakes. S O S oil analysis would indicate a high level of contaminates which is common with inboard brakes.Consult your Caterpillar dealer for complete information and assistance in establishing an S O S program for your equipment.Sampling Port Locations for Machines with the Following Serial Numbers

Sampling port for front final driveMore Frequent S O S Sampling Improves Life Cycle Management
Traditionally, the suggested S O S sampling intervals have been at each oil change, 250 hours for engines, or every 500 hours for all other compartments. A sampling interval of 250 hours for all compartments is recommended under the following conditions.Application
For the timely prediction of potential failure modes, studies have revealed that an interval of 500 hours between oil samples is too long when the following conditions occur:
some high load applications
some high temperature applications A 250 hour sampling interval provides more data points between oil change intervals. More data points between oil change intervals will increase the chance of detecting a potential failure.Determining Optimal Oil Change Intervals
In order to find the optimal utility of a particular oil, the compartments should be sampled on a 250 hour interval. This will provide the information about the condition of the oil and information concerning the oil performance . Also, more data points enable close monitoring of component wear rates while maximum lubrication is obtained. For detailed information on extending oil change intervals, please contact your Caterpillar dealer.Optimizing the Component Life Cycle
The increased frequency of sampling provides more defined data between oil change intervals. This enables close monitoring of the wear patterns during the component life cycle in order to ensure that the full component life cycle is realized. Therefore, the standard S O S sampling interval for all engine oil remains at 250 hours. While 500 hour sampling intervals remain acceptable for machine compartments, the 500 hour interval is not necessarily optimal. Under the above conditions, 250 hour intervals for oil sampling are recommended.
