PROBLEM
The cooling water used during the hot test procedure at the factory may not be fully drained from the engine. It is possible that there is a large amount of water remaining in the engine. The remaining cooling water may freeze, in cold climates during long term storage, and possibly damage the engine. This service letter only applies to engines in dealer inventory that have not been put into service.

ACTION REQUIRED
Refer to the appropriate service manual as necessary.
Remove the coolant drain plugs from the oil cooler assembly and allow water to drain. Also remove the coolant plug or 4N-1682 Cover Plate from the opposite side of the engine and allow coolant to drain. If the Cover Plate is removed, a new gasket is required upon assembly. Refer to attached Rework Procedure.
SERVICE CLAIM ALLOWANCES
1.0 hour will be allowed for each engine inspected and drained.
PARTS DISPOSITION
Handle the parts in accordance with your Warranty Bulletin on warranty parts handling.
Rework Procedure
Refer to Image 1.1.1 for a list of the effected product by model and part number.

1. Remove coolant drain plugs (A) from the oil cooler assembly and allow water to drain. Image 1.2.1.
2. Remove the 4N-1682 Cover Plate (B) or coolant drain plug (C) on the opposite side of the cylinder block from the oil cooler assembly and allow water to drain. Image 1.2.2.

3. Re-install drain plugs.
4. If the cover plate was removed, re-install the 4N-1682 Plate with a new 4N-0864 Gasket.
