Hot oil and components can cause personal injury.Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Operate the machine in order to warm the oil.
Park the machine on level ground. Lower the bucket to the ground and apply slight downward pressure. Engage the parking brake. Stop the engine.

Open the access panel that is located behind the cab.

Remove the drain plugs from the filter housings. Allow the oil to drain into a suitable container. Dispose of the used oil properly. Note: The majority of the oil will not drain until the seal around the lid has been broken.
Unscrew the bolts on the lids.
Remove the lids. The filters are attached to the lids. Unscrew the nuts and slide off the filters. Dispose of the used filter elements properly.
Clean the filter housings, the drain plugs, and the filter mounting bases with a clean, nonflammable solvent.
Inspect the filter housing seals. Replace the seals if the seals are damaged.
Place new filters on the rods that are attached to the lids. Screw on the nuts. Tighten the nut for the high pressure filter to a torque of 15 N m (11.1 lb ft). Tighten the nut for the low pressure filter to a torque of 30 N m (22.1 lb ft). Replace the lids on the filter housing. Screw the bolts onto the lids.
Install the drain plugs in the filter housings.
Start the engine. Apply the service brake. Only use the right brake pedal.
Slowly operate the STIC transmission direction control switch in order to circulate the oil.
Move the STIC transmission direction control switch to the NEUTRAL position. Engage the parking brake. Inspect the entire transmission system for leaks.
Check the transmission oil level. Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Transmission Oil Level - Check" for the correct procedure.
Close the access panel that is located behind the cab.
