and 3400 Series Direct Injection EnginesDescription of Change: An ether starting aid system is now used on 3200 and 3400 Series Direct Injection Engines installed in Caterpillar machines, to improve cold weather starts. The ether starting aid system is needed for cold weather starts because the engines with direct injection do not have glow plugs to preheat the combustion chambers. Because ether is a hazardous (with danger) material, shipment of new machines will be made without the ether cylinders. The 7J5608 and 7N296 Ether Cylinders can be ordered from the Parts Department. Either of these ether cylinders can be used in place of the other.
Additional time for delivery will be necessary because shipments of hazardous material are made byland or ocean freight only, even with emergency orders.Adaptable To: The ether starting aid system is adaptable to all 3200 and 3400 Series Direct Injection Engines installed in Caterpillar machines.
