Introduction
This Special Instruction outlines the parts and procedures needed to install the 388-8709 Guard Gp-Rear on the 990K steel mill machines. Do not order any parts or perform any procedures until you have read and understand the direction contained in this publication.Safety Section
Personal injury or death can result from lifting a heavy component.The heavy component can fall if using an incorrect hoist and/or sling or fastener to lift the load.Be sure the hoist and other devices have the correct lifting capacity to lift a heavy component. The approximate weight of the heavy component is given below.
Preparing the Machine
Move the machine to a smooth level area free of obstructions.
Turn the start key to the OFF position.
Perform Lock out Tag out procedures to operator controls.
Be sure that you have an adequate lifting device available to perform installation on this machine. Required Parts

Rear view of machine
(1) Tread
Remove tread (1) covering the right and left side of the rear bumper by drilling out and grinding down the rivets that secure the tread.

(3) 8T-4183 Bolts
(4) 5P-1076 Hard Washers
Start the installation with 435-5205 Guard-LH (2). Using an adequate lifting device to set the guard in place on left rear fender.
With 435-5205 Guard-LH (2) in place secure with eight 8T-4183 Bolts (3) and eight 5P-1076 Hard Washers (4) through the guard and into corresponding bolt holes in the rear fender assembly. Tighten the bolts to 100 20 N m (74 15 lb ft).
Repeat Steps 2 and 3 for the right-hand side installation.
