Cat Data Link circuit
This diagnostic code indicates the "Chassis" ECM is not receiving expected information from the VIMSTM Main ECM for more than 5 seconds.System Response:
There are events logged against an ECM that cannot be explained directly.
The "Chassis" ECM cannot communicate with this ECM or the ECM appears to communicate intermittently.
The automatic calibration function for the position sensor (body hoist) is disabled.Test Step 1. CHECK FOR DIAGNOSTIC CODES FOR OTHER ECMS
Turn off the key switch and the disconnect switch.
Disconnect all ECM modules that use the Cat Data Link.
One at a time, reconnect ECM modules that use the Cat Data Link.
After each ECM has been reconnected, check for diagnostic codes logged against that ECM.Expected Result:Diagnostic codes are not present for the other ECM modules. Results:
OK - Diagnostic codes are not present for the other ECM modules. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - Diagnostic codes are present for other ECM modules.Repair: Correct these other diagnostic codes.Check for this diagnostic code.If this diagnostic code is no longer active, return to normal operation. If this diagnostic code remains, return here.Proceed to Test Step 2.Test Step 2. VERIFY PART NUMBERS
Verify that the following part numbers are correct:
"Chassis" ECM
"Chassis" ECM software
VIMSTM Main ECM
VIMSTM Main ECM softwareExpected Result:All of the part numbers are correct. Results:
OK - All of the part numbers are correct. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - All part numbers are not correct.Repair: Installed the correct ECM, see Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace".Flash the correct software, see Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Flash Programming".STOPTest Step 3. INSPECT THE HARNESSThe key switch and the disconnect switch remain in the off position.
Inspect the harness.Clean and inspect the harness connector contacts for corrosion or damage.Check the wire insulation for damage caused by heat, corrosion, or chafing.
Perform a 45 N (10 lb) pull test on each circuit wire.
Reconnect all harness connectors.Verify that the connectors are fully seated and the clips are fastened.
Check for intermittent problems. Use Cat® Electronic Technician (Cat® ET) to perform a wiggle test on the harness.Expected Result:The harness is in good condition. Results:
OK - The harness is in good condition. Proceed to Test Step 4.
NOT OK - The harness is not in good condition.Repair: Repair or replace the harness.STOPTest Step 4. CHECK FOR SHORTS TO GROUNDThe key switch and the disconnect switch remain in the off position.
Disconnect the harness from all ECM modules that use the Cat Data Link.
At the harness connector for the "Chassis" ECM, measure the resistance between frame ground and the following:
J1-10 (wire 893-GN(Green))
J1-20 (wire 892-BR(Brown))Expected Result:The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms.Results:
OK - The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms. Proceed to Test Step 5.
NOT OK - The resistance is less than 5000 ohms. There is a short between frame ground and (wire 893-GN(Green)) or (wire 892-BR(Brown)).Repair: Repair or replace the harness.STOPTest Step 5. CHECK FOR SHORTS TO THE +BATTERY CIRCUITThe key switch and the disconnect switch remain in the
