Clean the area around oil filler cap (1) and filler tube (2). Remove the oil level dipstick by turning the handle in order to allow the oil to drain.Note: The oil level dipstick is integral with the oil filler cap for the torque converter and transmission oil. The oil filler cap is located on the right side of the transmission.
Clean the area around the ecology drain (3) and magnetic plug (4). Remove the oil drain plug (3) and allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.
Remove the magnetic plug (4) and inspect the magnetic plug for particles. Clean the magnetic plug if particles are present.
Reinstall the oil drain plug (3), magnetic plug (4), and the related O-ring seals.

Fill the transmission with new oil through filler tube (2). Fill the transmission to the "FULL" mark on the oil level dipstick. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)", Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities" and Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Torque Converter and Transmission Oil Level - Check".
Guide the oil level dipstick down the filler tube and turn the handle in order to make the seal between the filler tube and the oil filler cap.
Run the engine at LOW IDLE.
Place the transmission control in the NEUTRAL position.
The vehicle must be stationary.
Inspect the transmission, the oil drain plug (3) and magnetic plug (4) for leaks.
Remove the oil level dipstick and clean the oil level dipstick by wiping with a clean cloth.
Guide the oil level dipstick down the filler tube and turn the handle in order to make the seal between the filler tube and the oil filler cap.
Remove the oil level dipstick and check the oil level. The oil level is acceptable anywhere between the "FULL" mark and the "LOW" mark. If necessary, add oil through filler tube (2) .

Start the engine and run the engine at Low Idle with the transmission in neutral. Allow the temperature of the oil to warm up to normal operating temperature. Normal operating temperature is 66 °C to 82 °C (150 °F to 180 °F).
Remove the oil level dipstick and recheck the oil level. If necessary, add oil through filler tube (2) to the "Full" mark on the oil level dipstick.
Guide the oil level dipstick down the filler tube and turn the handle in order to make the seal between the filler tube and the oil filler cap.
Shut off the engine.
Clean up any spilled oil. CX31 Transmission
