START BY:a) remove camshaft 1. Remove the bolts, plate (1) and gear assembly (2) from the shaft. 2. Use a press and tool group (A) to remove the bearing from gear assembly (2). 3. Remove thrust washer (3) from shaft (4).4. Remove the bolts and shaft (4) from the engine block. 5. If removal of crankshaft gear (5) is necessary, use tooling (B) to remove gear (5) from the crankshaft. Removal of the gear can be made easier if the outside diameter of the gear is heated with a torch.Install Timing Gears
1. Heat gear (1) to a maximum temperature of 233°C (451°F). Make an alignment of the notch in the gear with the dowel in the crankshaft and make sure the timing mark on gear (1) is toward the outside. Install gear (1) on the end of the crankshaft until it is against the shoulder on the crankshaft. 2. Put shaft (2) in position and install the bolts to hold it.3. Install thrust washer (3) on shaft (2). 4. Use tool group (A) and a press to push bearing (4) into the bore in gear (5). The groove in the gear and the groove in the bearing must not be out of alignment by more than 5°. The inside diameter of bearing (4) must be 63.602 0.038 mm (2.5040 .0015 in.) after installation. 5. Install gear (5) on the shaft. Make sure the timing mark on gear (5) is in alignment with the timing mark on the crankshaft gear.6. Install thrust plate (6) and the bolts on the shaft. Make sure the side of plate (6) with the oil groove is toward the gear assembly and in the vertical position. The clearance between the gear and the plate must be 0.15 to 0.48 mm (.006 to .019 in.).END BY:a) install camshaft
