This manual provides instructions for removing the front or rear drum from the CB-314 compactor, disassembling and reassembling the drum. Tests are also included for checking the wear on the bearings used in the drum.When disassembling a drum for a specific purpose, it may not be necessary to take the drum completely apart. Do not go deeper into the drum than required to repair a problem.Each drum on this machine contains an eccentric weight shaft, supported by bearings and rotated by a hydraulic motor to create vibratory action of the drum. The drums are mounted to the frame with shock mounts to isolate vibration from the rest of the machine.Each drum contains an enclosed oil bath lubricating system. In order to obtain optimum life and performance out of the machine, the oil level must be monitored and lubrication performed on a regular basis. For lubrication locations and intervals refer to the Maintenance section of the Operator's Manual, or the lubrication chart on the machine.
To prevent drum leakage and unnecessary drum teardown, it is recommended that whenever the drum is being overhauled, all o-rings and seals be replaced with new parts during reassembly.
When torque specifications for nuts and bolts are not given in this manual, standard torques should be used. A chart with standard torque specifications is located in the rear of the Technical Information and Minor Adjustments Module.
When repairing a drum, always keep parts and drum interior clean. Dirt or other residue in oil bath will damage components and shorten bearing life.
