Engine control switch in the OFF/RESET positionThe Engine Control Switch (ECS) is a rotary switch that has four positions:
OFF/RESET
AUTO
MANUAL START
COOLDOWN/STOPNote: Only the indicators on the status control module are reset when the ECS is turned to the OFF/RESET position. Diagnostic codes must be cleared with the "Diagnostic Reset" switch which is located on the remote control panel.OFF/RESET - When the engine control switch is turned to this position (12 o'clock), the fault indicators on the status control module are reset and the engine shuts down immediately. The power is removed from the engine control module and the status control module. This method is not recommended for normal stopping.AUTO - When the engine control switch is in this position (3 o'clock), the system is configured for remote operation. When the remote start/stop initiate contact closes, the engine will start. If the cycle crank feature is utilized, the engine may cycle before starting. When the remote start/stop initiate contact opens, the engine will shut down. If the cooldown cycle is programmed, the engine will operate for the cooldown period before the engine shuts down.MANUAL START - When the engine control switch is turned to this position (6 o'clock), the engine will start. If the cycle crank feature is utilized, the engine may cycle before starting. The engine will continue to operate when the switch is in this position. However, if a setpoint for a shutdown is exceeded, the engine will shut down.COOLDOWN/STOP - This is the preferred method for normal stopping. When the engine control switch is turned to this position (9 o'clock), the engine will continue to operate until a programmable cooldown cycle has elapsed. The cooldown cycle can be programmed for a 0 to 30 minute period. The default setting is five minutes.Engines that are equipped with electronic governors will run at low idle until the oil pressure has exceeded the set point for low oil pressure. When the set point for low oil pressure has been exceeded, the 2301A relay for speed control will close and the engine will accelerate to rated speed.Engines with hydramechanical governors will accelerate to the speed setting immediately after crank termination.Sequence of Operation (Normal Start/Stop)
The Status Control Module (SCM) will check for the following conditions after receiving a start signal:
No emergency stop signal
No faults
Properly operating sensors
ECS signals OK
Zero engine RPM
Properly functioning SCM
SCM not in programming modeThe SCM will not begin the sequence for starting if any of the above conditions are not met. When the above conditions are met, the SCM will energize the following relays: Starting Motor Relay (SMR), Run Relay (RR), Fuel Control Relay (FCR), 2301A relay (if applicable) and ignition relay. The SCM will crank the engine, or cycle crank the engine, until the engine is running. If the engine fails to start within the crank time, an overcrank fault will occur. If a fault condition occurs while cranking, the SCM will lock out the cranking sequence, display the diagnostic code and/or illuminate the appropriate indicator.When the engine
