Remove Flywheel Housing
START BY:a. remove accessory drive (rear)b. remove flywheelc. remove air starterd. remove oil pan (rear half only)e. remove tachometer drivef. remove crankshaft rear seal and wear sleeve1. Remove the bolts and the cover from the flywheel housing. 2. Remove the plate from camshaft drive gear (1) on the end of the right side camshaft. Use tooling (A) to remove camshaft drive gear (1), and to remove the camshaft drive gear on the end of the left side camshaft.3. Put stands or blocks under the rear of the engine as support. The weight of the 3512 Engine is approximately 6131 kg (13,515 lb.). The weight of the 3516 Engine is approximately 7763 kg (17,114 lb.). 4. Fasten a hoist to flywheel housing (2), and remove the bolts that hold it. Remove flywheel housing (2) from the end of the cylinder block. The weight of flywheel housing (2) is 202 kg (445 lb.).Install Flywheel Housing
1. Put the flywheel housing gasket in position on the rear of the cylinder block. 2. Install two 5/8"-11 NC guide bolts in the rear of the cylinder block. Fasten a hoist, and put flywheel housing (1) in position on the guide bolts. 3. Install the bolts in their respective locations. See the Installation Chart. Tighten the 1/2"-NC bolts to a torque of 100 14 N m (74 10 lb.ft.). The 5/8"-11 NC bolts are tightened to a torque of 200 25 N m (148 18 lb.ft.). Cut the flywheel housing gasket even with the bottom of the cylinder block.4. Tighten three plugs (2) to a torque of 70 15 N m (52 11 lb.ft.). If dowels (3) are in need of replacement, install them to a height of 6.0 0.5 mm (.24 .02 in.). 5. Put camshaft drive gears (4) in position on the ends of the camshafts. Install plate (5) to hold the camshaft drive gear on the end of the right side camshaft. Tighten the bolts evenly to a torque of 100 15 N m (74 11 lb.ft.). Hit the plate with a hammer, and tighten the bolts again to the same torque. Do this until the torque does not change. See Install Tachometer Drive for the correct procedure to hold the left side camshaft drive gear in position. 6.
