Remove & Install Aftercooler & Aftercooler Core
Fluid Spillage Containment
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools And Shop Products Guide", NENG2500 for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose of fluids according to local regulations and mandates.1. Drain the coolant from the aftercooler core and water lines into a suitable container for storage or disposal. 2. Remove bolt (5), the washer and the spacer.3. Remove bolt (2) and the washer from the clip.4. Disconnect fuel line (1). Cap and plug all openings immediately.5. Remove two bolts (3) and remove elbow (4). 6. Disconnect fuel line (8). Cap and plug all openings immediately.7. Remove two bolts (7). Remove relief valve housing (6). 8. Remove six bolts (9). Remove elbow (10) and the O-ring seals.9. Remove bolts (13) and the washers.10. Remove clips (12) and bracket (11).11. Remove aftercooler cover (14) and the gasket. 12. Remove eight bolts (15) and the washers. 13. Remove two bolts (20), elbow (19) and the O-ring seal.14. Remove two adapters (16) and O-ring seal (17).15. Remove two adapters (18) and the O-ring seal. 16. Attach chains and a suitable lifting device to the aftercooler core as shown. Remove aftercooler core (21).17. Remove O-ring seals (22). 18. If necessary, remove eight bolts (24) and the washers. Remove aftercooler housing (23). 19. Remove aftercooler housing gasket (25). The following steps are for the installation of the aftercooler core. Check all O-ring seals and gaskets for wear or damage and replace with new parts if necessary. 20. If aftercooler housing (23) was removed, install gasket (25) and the aftercooler housing.21. Install eight bolts (24) and the washers. 22. Install O-ring seals (22). Lubricate the bores and the O-ring seals lightly with glycerin.23. Install aftercooler core (21) with chains and a suitable lifting device. 24. Install adapters (16) and O-ring seal (17)25. Install adapters (18) and the O-ring seal.26. Install elbow (19) with two bolts (20). Install bolts (15) and the washers. 27. Install aftercooler cover (14) with clips (12), bracket (11), and bolts (13).28. Install elbow (10) with bolts (9) and the O-ring seals. 29. Install relief valve housing (6) with two bolts (7). Connect fuel line (8). 30. Install elbow (4) with two bolts (3).31. Connect fuel line (1). Install bolt (2) and the washer in the clip.
