Spike
Illustration 1 g00838036
spike harrow (5 bar) (1) Chain (Pull) (2) Chain (Hanger) (3) Link (3A) 45 degree position (3B) 25 degree positionThe spike harrow has the following characteristics:
3 bar or 5 bar
3/4 inch spikes
7 1/2 inch spacing
10 inch long teeth
Conventional tillage
Heavy residue can cause bunching.Adjustments
Personal injury or death could result from sudden implement movement. Lower the implement to the ground. Set the parking brake and stop engine before servicing the implement.
Use the following guidelines for adjusting the spike harrow:
Make sure that chain (hanger) (2) hangs loosely in the operating position.
Start with chain (pull) (1) in the lower slot.
Shortening the chain (pull) will cause the harrow to have a more severe angle and the harrow will drag more residue.
Lengthening the chain (pull) will relax the harrow and the harrow will allow more residue to pass.
The spikes can be held at a 45 degree angle or at a 25 degree angle. Links (3) are factory installed in the 45 degree angle position. Installing links (3) in position (B) will cause the spike to be held in a 25 degree angle.Spring Tine
Illustration 2 g00838072
The spring tine harrow has the following characteristics:
3 row or 4 row
7/16 inch diameter spring tines
16 inch long spring tines
7 1/2 inch spacing
Overall spacing of 2 1/2 inches
Heavy residue is Distributed.
Each bar works independently of the other bars.
Pitch of spring tines is easily adjusted.Adjustments
Personal injury or death could result from sudden implement movement. Lower the implement to the ground. Set the parking brake and stop engine before servicing the implement.
Use the following procedure for an initial setting of the spring tines:
Park the implement on a level surface and lower the implement to the ground. Set the parking brake and stop the engine.
Support bar (1) for the spring tines should be slightly higher in the front. Adjust the support bar, if necessary. Move pin (2) in order to change the level of the support bar.
Adjust the tension of spring (3) for the spring tines. Front hole (4) provides the most tension.
Make sure that bars (5) can freely swing. Bolts (6) could be too tight.
Operate the implement and readjust the implement, if necessary.Combination (Tine As and Reel)
Illustration 3 g00839371
A reel is available with the spring tine harrow. The addition of a reel with the spring tine harrow provides the following benefits:
Residue is spread evenly.
Firms up the seed bed
Pockets of air are eliminated.Note: Reels can become plugged when working in wet conditions.Note: The bearings for the reels should be lubricated at 40 hour intervals.Adjustment
Personal injury or death could result from sudden implement movement. Lower the implement to the ground. Set the parking brake and stop engine before servicing the implement.
Use the following procedure for adjusting the combination:
Adjust the spring tine harrow before adjusting the reel.Reference: See "Spring Tine Harrow" for additional information.
Position spring (4) in the middle hole and adjust the u-clip (5) for the down pressure of the reel.
If necessary, reposition spring (4) in the first hole or the last hole in order to provide the correct down pressure.
