Cracks typically occur more on the right-hand side of machine but may be found on the left.Cracks propagate due to undersize welds or poor weld fusion and may be concentrated in certain applications.Attachment fender in Grenoble for fuel tank–cracks have been seen on back of fender around opening.

Remove three or four track shoes for improved accessibility. Refer to the appropriate Disassembly & Assembly for your machine.
Drain the hydraulic tank. Refer to the appropriate Operation & Maintenance Manual for your machine.
Loosen three bolts underneath the fender and remove hydraulic tank (1). Refer to the appropriate Disassembly & Assembly for your machine.

Grind the area that is cracked and prepare for the weld repairs.

Fabricate channel (3) as shown in Illustration 6.

Add channel (2) to the fender in the location as shown in Illustration 7. Add a 6 mm (0.2 inch) fillet weld all around to both ends of the channel where the channel intersects with the existing fender. Add a 6 mm (0.2 inch) intermittent weld, 50 mm (2.0 inch) long, and spaced 100 mm (3.9 inch) apart on center to the other two edges of the channel (2) .
Add channel (3) to the fender in the location as shown in Illustration 7. Add a 6 mm (0.2 inch) fillet weld all around to both ends of the channel where the channel intersects with the existing fender. Add a 6 mm (0.2 inch) intermittent weld, 50 mm (2.0 inch) long, and spaced 100 mm (3.9 inch) apart on center to the other two edges of each channel (3) .
