Movement of the machine could result in death or personal injury. Shut the 3208T (Engine B) diesel engine down. Tag the machine controls. Lock the main battery switch at OFF before starting work.
1. Loosen two jam nuts (3) (not shown).2. Hold two adjusting bolts (2).3. Turn two adjusting nuts (1) to relieve lower conveyor belt tension. 4. Support lower conveyor tail pulley (5). The weight of the lower conveyor tail pulley is 68 kg (150 lb).5. Loosen two setscrews (4) in each bearing collar.6. Loosen four mounting bolts (6) alternately and evenly. Repeat on other side of conveyor.7. Adjust the support provided for the tail pulley as necessary to keep the pulley from dropping when the bolts are removed.8. Slide two bearings (7) off the shaft.9. Remove tail pulley (5) from lower conveyor if necessary. The following steps are for the installation of the lower conveyor tail pulley bearing.10. Install tail pulley (5) if it was removed.11. Slide two new bearings (7) into place.12. Install four mounting bolts (6).13. Tighten setscrews (4) in the bearing collar. Follow the steps to adjust the tension of the lower conveyor belt.
Keeping the proper tension in the conveyor belts is important for long belt life, as well as for efficient conveyor operation. If a belt is too tight, nicks and cuts in the belt cover will spread rapidly. The belt will stretch and lose its strength, and the pulley bearings may even fail. If the belt is too loose, the cover that contacts the pulley will wear rapidly due to slippage.
Do not try to remove all the sag from the return side of the belt.
a. Hold adjusting nuts (1) and turn adjusting bolts (2) evenly and alternately.b. Hold adjusting bolts (2) and tighten jam nuts (3). Do not make large corrections-make a small correction, check operation. Then, if necessary, make another small correction until optimum belt tension is reached.14. Lubricate the bearing.15. Switch the main disconnect to ON.16. Start the 3208T (Engine B) diesel engine.17. Move the lower conveyor control to F. Make sure the lower conveyor is operating. Check for leaks.18. Operate the 3208T (Engine B) diesel engine for at least five minutes to check the lower conveyor systems.
