Remove the engine oil pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pump - Remove".
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Typical Example
Remove the bolts that secure suction bell (1) to the engine oil pump. Remove the suction bell from the engine oil pump.
Remove idler gear (2) from the engine oil pump.

Use Tool (A) to remove bearing (3) from idler gear (2) .

Remove bolt (4) from the drive gear.

Use Tool (B) and a hydraulic press to remove the drive gear from the shaft.

Remove three bolts (5) and the washers. Remove cover assembly (6) .

Remove bearings (8) and O-ring seal (7) from cover assembly (6) .

Remove the two shaft assemblies (9) and (10) from the body of engine oil pump (11) .

Remove bolt (12) and pressure relief valve (13) from the body of engine oil pump (11) .
Use tool (A) to remove two bearings (15). Remove one shaft assembly (14) from the body of engine oil pump (11) .
