Field reports indicate that there have been friction disc failures involving friction material fatigue and crumbling of the friction material lands.Solution:
A production change is forthcoming. In the interim, the 6Y7220 Disc may be used in place of the original 9W2473 Disc which is used in the 7T5505 and 7T5800 Planetary Groups. The new 6Y7220 Disc has a 3 mm (.12 in) wide land that is stronger and has improved fatigue and crumbling resistance. The wider land results in lower unit pressure on the friction material due to the increased contact area. The 6Y7220 Disc is a direct replacement for the 9W2473 Disc which is used in the second and third speed clutches. Do not mix new and former discs.
