Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Open the hood behind the cab.

Remove the four bolts and the cover on one side of the oil tank.

Remove spring (1) and the oil filter.

Note: Move the oil filter away from the hydraulic tank before you remove the filter element from the metal housing. This will prevent contaminated oil from spilling back into the hydraulic tank.
Filter element (2) is enclosed in a metal housing. Lift up on handle (3) and hold onto housing (4). Rotate the handle counterclockwise by a 1/4 turn and lift up on the handle. The filter element can now be pulled from the housing.
Clean the metal housing with a clean, nonflammable solvent. Allow the housing to air dry completely.
Install a new filter element in the housing. Turn the newfilter element clockwise by 1/4 turn in order to lock the filter element into the housing.
Install the oil filter and spring (1) .
Install the cover and the four bolts.

Repeat the procedure for the oil filter on the other side of the oil tank.
Close the hood.
Start the engine and operate the machine for a few minutes. Check the machine for leaks.
Check the oil level in the hydraulic tank. Add oil, if necessary.
