Before starting the engine, and when parking the machine:1. Place the transmission control in NEUTRAL.2. Engage the transmission neutral lock.3. Lower all raised equipment.4. Set the parking brakes.
The bail will automatically raise if the engine is started with the control lever in the "BAIL UP" position.If the bail is raised, clearance between the bail cylinder and frame is reduced.If a man is working under the cylinder, be sure the bail control is in the "BAIL DOWN" position.Be sure the machine operator understands the potential hazard, before he starts the engine.
Actuation of the steering or cushion hitch control can cause movement - reducing hitch clearances suddenly.
Always move the cushion ride control to LOCK DOWN when leaving the operator's compartment.
To avoid possible weakening of the Rollover Protective Structure (ROPS), consult a Caterpillar dealer before altering the ROPS in any way.The protection offered by the ROPS will be impaired if it has been subjected to structural damage.
Use the steps and grab irons located on the machine when mounting or dismounting. Use both hands and face the machine when mounting or dismounting.Do not jump off the machine.Do not use the steering wheel as a hand hold. The machine could articulate.
General
Read and understand all safety precautions and warnings before operating this machine.Keep the machine, especially the deck and steps, free of foreign material. Secure all loose items such as lunch boxes, tools, etc.Know the hand signals and who gives them. Accept signals from one person only.Use the right side sliding cab window as an emergency exit, if necessary.Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry that can catch on parts of the machine.Do not smoke while refueling or when near batteries.Check the machine for loose or missing bolts, oil leaks and damaged or broken components that could affect operation.Keep windows and doors of the cab closed to reduce noise in the cab.Preparing to Start
Inspect the seat belt. Replace it if it is damaged or worn.Adjust the seat so that full brake pedal travel can be obtained with the operator's back against the seat back.Make certain all guards and covers are secured in place.Make sure the machine is equipped with the proper lighting system, as required by job conditions.Always have a fire extinguisher on hand and know how to use it. Inspect it as recommended.Inspect for potential fire hazards and correct them.Starting
Do not start the machine, or move any of the controls, if there is a warning tag hanging on the controls.Make sure that no one is working on, under or around the machine before starting the e engines.Always lower the scraper bowl before starting the engines.Before starting the engines, shift the transmission control lever to neutral. Engage the parking brake.Move all controls to HOLD or NEUTRAL before starting the engines.Start and run the engines only in a well ventilated area.Preparing to Operate
Fasten the seat belt securely.Check the operation of all controls while moving slowly in an open area. See the Lubrication and Maintenance Guide for adjustments if needed.* Right and left steering.* All brakes.*
