The components of the engine shutdown circuit are the engine shutdown switch and the Engine Electronic Control Module (ECM).

(2) Engine ECM Engine shutdown switch (1) is used on the machine to provide Engine ECM (2) with an engine shutdown mode.Engine ECM (2) monitors engine shutdown switch (1) for a change in status. Engine shutdown switch (1) has two sets of contacts: normally closed (NC) and normally open (NO). Engine ECM (2) has two inputs: normally closed (NC) and normally open (NO). Engine ECM (2) will shut down the engine when the status of engine shutdown switch (1) changes from normally closed (NC) to normally open (NO). Engine shutdown switch (1) will reset when the knob is turned clockwise. This shutdown method should only be used in an emergency.
