All communication between the host computer and the FP40+ is through the 9-way D-type female port shown in Figure 8. This port provides a full duplex RS232 serial interface and power connections for printer operation.The RS232 serial interface has the following characteristics:* 9600 baud except when connected to a modem. The FP40+ to modem cable links pin 5 of the communication port to 0V to indicate that there is a modem connected to the printer. In this condition the printer uses 1200 band communications.* 8 data bits (ASCII characters only).* 1 stop bit, no parity.* XON/XOFF and/or DTR flow control.Refer to the separate FP40 Series Technical Reference Manual for full details of the serial interface.Table 3 lists the various cables available from Radix to connect the FD40+ to data sources.
