1570 mm (61.8 inch)    Note: If the resulting empty ride height is not correct, repeat the above procedure raising or lowering the charge pressure in 138 kPa (20 psi) increments. The important parameter is to charge the suspensions to provide the correct empty ride height.Note: If the truck will be operated in ambient conditions colder than in the work area, Caterpillar recommends that the adjusted empty truck ride height is increased 12 -15 mm (0.5 - 1 inch) to compensate for the effects to the reduced temperatures.
Close the individual shut off valves and then the gas pressure regulator.
Remove the charging equipment and check for leaks using a soap solution.Note: If a leak is found in the charge valve core area:
Check the torque on the valve core. The valve core should be torqued to 0.35 - 0.45 N m (3 - 4 lb in)
If this step does not stop the leak, check the valve core area for damage or contamination or replace the valve core. All pressure in the suspension should be relieved prior to removal of the valve core using the charging unit.
Install the protective covers. Torque to 4.5 - 5.5 N m (40 - 50 lb in).
Remove the blocking and lower the truck to the ground.
Operate the truck for approximately 24 hours, and then repeat the empty ride height checking process. Adjust as required.Inspection and Repair
The disassembled suspension may be serviced as follows:
Inspect all component parts both inside and outside. Components must be smooth and polished. Remove all nicks, chipped or cracked finishes, and rust spots. Remove all oil and other contamination. If rust is evident in the vicinity of the seals, clean the surface with 400 grit emery cloth.
Inspect the self-aligning bearings in the frame and axlebox for evidence of wear and/or damage. Bearings must be free of defects and still properly installed. If bearings need replaced, refer to section ""Bearing Replacement"".
Install the self-aligning bore as follows:
Steel spherical bearings should not come in direct contact with dry ice and should not be immersed in liquid nitrogen. Either of these actions could result in the change of the metallurgical character of the bearing affecting subsequent fit and operation.
Using all of the appropriate precautions because of the cold temperatures of the materials involved, carefully cool the bearing assembly to a temperature of −40° - -57° C (−40° - -70° F).
Once both components are at the proper temperatures, carefully remove the bearing from the cooling medium and
