Brake Monitoring Function
The Brake ECM monitors the status of service and parking brakes related to the brake system. The following specific parameters are monitored by the Brake ECM:Brake Accumulator Pressure
The Brake ECM determines the status of the accumulator pressure for the service brake by monitoring the "Service Brake Accumulator Pressure" Sensor. This switch changes states when the pressure is low and the ECM outputs this low-pressure status to the monitoring system for display.Note: The service brake accumulators and the parking brake accumulator are located below the truck body on the left side.Second Brake Accumulator Pressure
The Brake ECM determines the status of the accumulator pressure for the secondary brake by monitoring the "Secondary Brake Accumulator Pressure" Sensor. This switch changes states when the pressure is low and the ECM outputs this low-pressure status to the monitoring system for display.Service Brake Pressure
The Brake ECM determines the status of the service brake pressure by monitoring the "Service Brake Pressure" Switch. This pressure switch changes states when the service brake is active and the brake lights are driven accordingly. Brake Pump
The brake activation pump is mounted to the hoist pump. The brake activation pump is a fixed displacement pump that provides oil to operate the service and parking/secondary brakes.Brake Oil Filter
The brake oil filter is located inside of the left frame rail. Oil from the brake pump flows through the brake filter to the brake activation system. The brake oil filter is equipped with a bypass valve and an oil bypass switch in the filter base. The bypass switch sends a signal to the Brake ECM when the filter is restricted.Brake/Chassis Valve
The truck is equipped with a single manifold brake/chassis valve that is located below the body of the truck on the left side. The brake/chassis valve is a block with strategically drilled holes to direct oil flow from the brake pump to the service and parking brakes.Other functions of the brake/chassis valve include:
Automatic Retarding Control (ARC)
hoist valve pilot supply oil
parking and service brake accumulator charging
accumulator purging
brake pump unloading
signal oil supply to the traction control system valveService Brake Valve
The service brake valve is located below the service brake pedal in the cab. The service brake valve directs supply oil from the brake/chassis valve to the shuttle valves in the brake/chassis valve."Brake Filter Bypass" Pressure
The Brake ECM detects the clogging of the filter for the brake fluid by using the "Brake Pump Pressure" Sensor. When a pressure reading that is out of the expected range is detected, the Brake ECM will respond by activating the "Brake Filter" Switch. This switch changes states when the filter is clogged and the ECM outputs the filter condition to the monitoring system for display.Brake Oil Temperature
The Brake ECM monitors the brake oil temperature, using signals from the four brake cooiling oil temperature sensors. The brake ECM also monitors signals from the brake cooling pump speed sensor. The Brake ECM outputs this temperature status to the monitoring system for display. The Brake ECM will also act accordingly if the temperature
