2. Use two wrenches, one to hold adapter assemblies (2) so they will not turn and one to loosen nuts (3).3. Loosen nuts (5), and remove fuel injection lines (1) from the fuel injection pump and the adapter assemblies as a unit.4. Put caps or plugs on all fuel system openings to keep dirt or foreign material out of the fuel system.
If clamps (4) are not installed in their exact location, vibration can cause fuel injection lines (1) to break and cause possible personal injury or damage to the engine.
5. If a separation of fuel injection lines (1) has to be made, make sure the exact location of clamps (4) are marked for assembly purposes. Remove the clamps and make a separation of fuel injection lines (1).Install Fuel Injection Lines
1. Connect fuel injection lines (3) together with clamps (1). Make sure the clamps are installed in their correct locations.2. Remove the caps and plugs from the fuel system openings, and make sure the fuel injection lines are clean and dry.
The fuel injection lines must not make contact with other fuel lines or engine components except at fittings and clamps.
3. Put fuel injection lines (3) in position on the engine as a unit. Use a wrench to hold the adapter assemblies, so they will not turn. Use tool (A) and a torque wrench to tighten fuel injection line nuts (2) at the adapter assemblies to a torque of 40 7 N m (30 5 lb. ft.). When a crowfoot wench is used with a torque wrench, a correction is necessary for the dial reading. To find the amount of correction necessary, use the Caterpillar Torque Computer, Form No. GEG02229 which is also Snap-On Form No. SS-306B.4. Use tool (B) and a torque wrench to tighten fuel injection line nuts (4) at the fuel injection pump to a torque of 40 7 N m (30 5 lb. ft.).5. Remove (bleed) the air from the fuel system.
