Remove & Install Governor & Fuel Injection Pump Housing
Start By:a. remove expansion tank and brackets (later) The photos for the procedure are of the 3412 Marine Engine with the electronic governor, but the procedure is quite similar to the 3408 & 3412 Marine Engine with the mechanical governor.
Typical Example1. Use Tool (A) to remove fuel lines (1) both sides. Disconnect and plug all fuel hose connections (2). At assembly use Tool (A) to torque the fuel line nuts to 41 7 N m (30 5 lb ft).2. Disconnect all electrical connections (3) from the governor and housing.
Typical Example3. Remove four bolts (6) and (8) and remove two tubes (7).4. Remove mounting bolts (5).5. Remove nut and washer (9) and remove the timing gear housing (4).
Typical Example6. Remove four bolts (10) and spacer (12). At assembly, refer to the topic, "Camshaft Timing For Fuel Injection Pump" in Systems Operation, Testing & Adjusting Manual, SENR5517. Tighten bolts (10) to a torque of 25 N m (20 lb ft). Tighten bolts (10) to 136 7 N m (100 plusmn; 5 lb ft).7. Remove timing gear assembly (11).
Typical Example8. Loosen bolts (14).9. Remove two bolts (15).10. Remove tube assembly (13).
Typical Example11. Remove pump housing mounting bolts (16) both sides.
Typical Example12. Attach a hoist and strap (17) to pump housing (18) as shown. Remove the pump. The weight of the pump for the 3412 is 91 kg (200 lb). The weight of the pump for the 3408 is 57 kg (125 lb). Reverse the order of Steps 1 thru 12 for installation.End By:a. install expansion tank and brackets (later)
