Check - Adjust
To prevent possible injury, do not use the starter motor to turn the flywheel.Hot engine components can cause burns. Allow additional time for the engine to cool before measuring valve clearance.
Intial valve lash, unit injector and fuel timing check and/or adjustment on new or rebuilt engines is recommended at the first scheduled oil change interval, or 250 Service Hours, whichever occurs first, due to initial wear and seating of valve train components. All subsequent checks and adjustments are to be made Every 1000 Service Hours.Refer to the Engine Service Manual for the complete procedure to perform this maintenance. Operation of engines with improper valve adjustments will reduce engine efficiency. This reduced efficiency could result in excessive fuel usage and/or shortened engine component life.Refer to the Engine Service Manual or your Caterpillar dealer for the complete procedure to perform this maintenance.
