Schematic of the Transmission Upshift Switch (1) Transmission upshift switch. (2) Power train Electronic Control Module (ECM).Transmission upshift switch (1) sends two inputs to the power train Electronic Control Module (ECM). One input is normally open (N/O), and one is normally closed (N/C). During normal operation, one input is open and the other input is closed. A fault is recorded by the power train ECM, when both switch inputs are closed. The CID 0622 FMI 06 diagnostic code is displayed when this fault occurs. The test points for transmission upshift switch (1) are at the pigtail harness connector of the switches for shifting the transmission. The connector is located behind the front panel below the steering wheel. Note: Ensure that the desired fault CID 0622 FMI 06 is active. Before you perform this procedure, refer to Table 1 in order to determine the contacts and the wire numbers that correspond to the faulty circuit.

( 1 ) Connector contact for the power train ECM.Note: Wire 202-BK is connected to the frame ground.Note: The fault should not be present immediately after the key start switch is tuned ON. Power train ECM (2) waits for 30 seconds, before the fault is recorded.
Check the transmission upshift switch.
Turn the key start switch and the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness from transmission upshift switch (1) .
Check the continuity to ground of the N/C contact and the N/O contact while you activate transmission upshift switch (1). Refer to Table 1 for the correct status of transmission upshift switch (1) .Expected Result: The continuity check agrees with Table 1.Results:
YES - The continuity check does agree with Table 1. The transmission upshift switch is not faulty. Proceed to Step 2.
NO - Continuity check does not agree with Table 1. Replace the switch. STOP.
Check the machine harness for a short to ground.
The key start switch and the battery disconnect switch remain in the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness connector J1 from power train ECM (2) .
At the machine harness connector for power train ECM (2), check the continuity of the N/C contact 19 and the N/O contact 23 while you activate transmission upshift switch (1) to contacts 2, 5, 7, 15, and 16. Expected Result: Each resistance should be greater than 5000 Ohms.Results:
YES - The machine harness is correct. Proceed to Step 3.
NO - There is a short in the machine harness. The machine harness is faulty. Replace the machine harness or repair the machine harness. STOP.
Check if the fault is still present.
Clean the contacts of the harness connectors.
Reconnect all harness connectors.
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the ON position.
Start the engine.
Enter the service mode of the Caterpillar Monitoring System. Clear all inactive faults.
Operate the machine.
Stop the machine.
Check for the CID 0622 FMI 06 diagnostic code for transmission upshift
