Remove & Install Fuel Injection Lines
FLUID SPILLAGE CONTAINMENT Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "TOOLS AND SHOP PRODUCT GUIDE, NENG2500", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.1. Thoroughly clean the area around each fuel line connection before any fuel lines are removed. 2. Disconnect fuel vent tube (1) at both ends. Loosen clamp bolts (2) to allow lines to move. Put identification on the fuel lines as to their location on the injector pumps and adapters. If necessary use Tooling (A) and disconnect fuel lines (3) at the adapters. 3. Disconnect all fuel lines (4) from the injection pump.
Put protection caps (5F-2807) and plugs (2F-2990) on all lines and pumps to keep dirt and foreign material out of the fuel system.
4. Put caps on all openings and plugs in all fuel lines to keep dirt or foreign material out of the fuel system. The following steps are for installation of the fuel injection lines. Fuel lines must not contact other fuel lines or engine components except at the fittings and the clamps.5. Remove the plugs and caps and install the fuel lines in their respective pistons. Tighten fuel line nuts to a torque of 41 7 N m (30 5 lb ft).6. Remove (bleed) the air from the fuel system.
If new fuel lines are used for replacement, remove the identification tags from the lines. The tags can cause wear on the fuel injection lines.
