Prepare the machine for disassembly and assembly procedures. For additional information, refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Preparation for Disassembly".Note: Put identification on all lines, hoses, wires, and tubes for installation purposes. Use caps and plugs on all lines, hoses, and tubes in order to prevent fluid loss or contamination of the systems.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure.Steam can cause personal injury.Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure.Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.
Lower the bottom guard. For additional information, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Bottom Guard Lowering".
Drain the engine coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change" or Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (DEAC) - Change". The capacity of the cooling system is approximately 50 L (13 US gal).

Remove bolts (1) in order to remove guards (2) from the radiator group.
Remove bolts (3) in order to remove guard (4) from the radiator group.

Remove clips (7). Disconnect hose assemblies (5) and hose assemblies (6) .

Disconnect hose (8) and hose (9) from the radiator group.

Disconnect hose (11), hose (12), and hose (14) from the radiator group.
Remove bolts (10) and (13). Install Tooling (A) in the holes for bolts (10) and (13). Attach a suitable lifting device to Tooling (A) .
Remove bolts (15) and remove the radiator group. The weight of the radiator group is approximately 118 kg (260 lb).
