Place plate (6) in position on disc springs (5).

Compress plate (6) and disc springs (5) in order to install retaining ring (7). Use Tooling (A) to install the retaining ring.

Turn over hub (4) and install seal (8) into the seal groove of hub (4). Note: Size the seal by holding a round object against the seal. Rotate the round object around the seal until the seal is flush with the outer diameter of the seal groove. Note: Lubricate the seal with the lubricant that is being sealed prior to the installation of the retarder housing.

Install retarder housing (9) onto hub (4).

Place rotor (10) in position on hub (4). The bolt holes in the rotor must be aligned with the bolt holes in the hub.
Install bolts (11) that secure the rotor to the hub. Tighten bolts (11) to a torque of 28 7 N m (21 5 lb ft).

Use Tooling (E) in order to lubricate O-ring seal (12) (not shown) and the groove. Install O-ring seal (12).
Use Tooling (B) and a suitable press in order to install bearing (13) on hub (4).

Install seal (15) in the seal groove of retarder stator (14). Note: Size the seal by holding a round object against the seal. Rotate the round object around the seal until the seal is flush with the outer diameter of the seal groove.

Place retarder stator (14) in position on retarder housing (9) (not shown).
Install allen head screws (16) in order to secure the retarder stator in position. Tighten screws (16) to a torque of 55 10 N m (41 7 lb ft).
Install retaining ring (17) in the ring groove of the bearing. Use Tooling (A) in order to install retaining ring (18) on hub (4).
Turn over the transmission retarder. Install Tooling (C) on the transmission retarder.

Use Tooling (D) in order to install retaining ring (19) in the inside diameter of hub (4).

Install the following components inside the bore of the hub: race (25), disc (26) and race (27).

Install steel plate (24) and friction disc (23).

Install hub (22) and plate (21) in the inside diameter of hub (4).

Install retaining ring (20). End By:
Connect the retarder to the torque converter. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Torque Converter - Assemble" for the procedure to connect the retarder to the torque converter.
