Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Park the machine on a level surface. Ensure that the parking brake is engaged. Lower the body and shut off the engine. Allow the oil to fully cool.Note: Step 2 refers to machines with the following serial numbers only: AXM1-1182 and AWR1-588
Lower the suspension.Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Suspension System - Check/Adjust".

The tank is located on the left side of the machine under cover plate (2). Release two latches (1) and lift cover plate (2) in order to access the top of the tank.

Filler cap (3) is located on top of the tank. Remove filler cap (3) slowly in order to gradually relieve any system pressure.

Drain plug (4) is located on the bottom of the tank.Remove the drain plug. Install 6B-3156 Pipe Nipple in order to unseat the drain valve. Allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.
Remove the pipe nipple. Inspect the drain plug and the seal for damage. If the drain plug or the seal are damaged, replace the damaged components.Install the drain plug and the seal.
Fill the tank with new oil through the filler tube.Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscocities" and Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)".
Start the engine and run the engine at low idle.Note: Step 9 refers to machines with the following serial numbers only: AXM1-1182 and AWR1-588
Check that there is adequate vertical clearance. Raise the suspension and lower the suspension.Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Suspension System - Check/Adjust".
Check that there is adequate vertical clearance. Raise the dump body and lower the dump body.
Stop the engine.Note: Step 12 refers to machines with the following serial numbers only: AXM1-1182 and AWR1-588
Set the front suspension.Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Suspension System - Check/Adjust".
Check the oil level. Add oil, if necessary.Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hoist System and Brake System Oil Level - Check".
Check the filler cap and the seal for damage. Replace any damaged components. Install the filler cap.
Lower cover plate (2) and tighten two latches (1) .
Clean up oil spills.
