Machine Preparation
Personal injury or death can result from machine articulation or movement.Machine frames can move and a person can be crushed.Connect the steering frame lock link between the front and rear frames before working on machine.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Do not connect or disconnect hose fittings to or from the quick disconnect nipples when there is pressure in the system. This will prevent damage to the seals that are in the fitting.
Park the machine on a smooth level surface.
Move the STIC transmission direction control switch to the NEUTRAL position.
Lower the bucket and/or the attachment to the ground.
Connect the steering frame lock link between the front and the rear frames.
Engage the parking brake. Removing the Pump From the Machine
Install the 4C-7158 Fitting onto 5P-0306 Vacuum Transducer (A). See Illustration 1.

Remove vent line (1) from fitting (2) .
Attach hose (C) onto fitting (2) and secure the hose with hose clamp (B). Connect the other end of hose (C) onto the inlet port of vacuum transducer (A). Use hose clamp (B) to secure hose (C) to the vacuum transducer.
Attach hose (D) to the outlet port on vacuum transducer (A). Secure hose (D) with hose clamp (B). The other end of hose (D) will go to a suitable container in order to collect excess oil.
Attach a compressed air hose to vacuum transducer (A). Note: The compressed air hose must have a constant pressure of 275 kPa (40 psi) to 415 kPa (60 psi) in order for the vacuum transducer to operate properly.
Turn on compressed air in order to create vacuum in the axle oil cooler system. The vacuum will allow the oil lines to be disconnected with minimal oil loss. Note: Place a suitable container under the work area in order to collect any oil that may leak when you are disconnecting oil lines.

Remove hose flange (6) at the outlet side of the axle oil cooler pump. Cap the hose with Tooling (E). Note: The existing flange bolts may be used with Tooling (E).
Remove hose flange (8) at the inlet side of the axle oil cooler pump. Cap the hose with Tooling (F).
Remove line (5) to the pressure switch.
Disconnect the pump from pump motor (3).
Disconnect the compressed air from vacuum transducer (A). Bench Test
The flow rate of the axle oil cooler pump must be set to the proper flow before testing the
