3208 Marine Engines With MG507 Marine GearsDescription of Change: Several new parts are used on MG507 Marine Gears driven by the 3208 Marine Engine to reduce the possibility of unsightly oil leaks and low oil level in the gear. See illustration. ... A new dipstick tube with a positive seal and a new dipstick (gauge) are used.... A sealed closure cap for the oil fill hole replaces the former filler cap.... In order to provide a breather, a separate breather is installed at the alternate dipstick location.
Locations of new parts.Adaptable To: The new parts are adaptable to earlier MG507 Marine Gears. See chart and following procedure. To install the new parts:
1. Use a slide hammer puller to remove the former filler cup and breather from the housing.2. Install the expanding rubber closure in place of the former breather.3. Remove former dipstick and its tube. The tube is screwed into threads in the housing. Pipe thread sealant can be used on all the threads, but do not allow any sealant to enter the transmission.4. Install the new tube assembly and its dipstick.5. Referring to the illustration, remove the pipe plug from the side of the transmission opposite the dipstick. Install the new bushing in this hole, and install the new breather in the bushing.
