start by: a) remove flywheel housingb) remove crankshaft rear seal ring and thrower1. Turn the crankshaft counterclockwise (as viewed from rear of engine) to top center compression stroke No. 1 piston. 2. Using a 3/8"-16NC forged eyebolt (1), remove the camshaft drive shaft from drive gear.
Do not attempt to rotate the crankshaft with camshaft drive shaft or any of the timing gears removed and the camshafts installed or damage to a piston or valve may result.
3. Remove the camshaft drive idler gear retaining bolts, lock, and thrust washer. Remove camshaft drive gear. 4. Remove the camshaft drive idler gear retaining nuts, lock, and thrust washer. Remove camshaft drive idler gear (2). Using tool (A) remove the bearing from the camshaft drive idler gear. 5. Remove the camshaft and accessory drive idler gear retaining bolts, lock, and thrust washer. Remove idler gear (3). Using tool (B) remove the bearing from the camshaft and accessory drive idler gear.6. Remove the cluster gear retaining bolts, lock, and thrust washer. Remove cluster gear (4). Using tool (C), remove the bearing from cluster gear.7. Remove transmission pump drive gear. 8. Remove transmission pump drive idler gear (5).Install Timing Gears
1. Install transmission pump drive idler gear.2. Install transmission pump drive gear. 3. Using tool (C), install the bearing in cluster gear. Put the cluster gear on engine with timing mark in alignment. Install thrust washer, lock, and retaining bolts. Put lubricant on all bearings before installing gear. 4. Using tool (B), install the bearing in camshaft and accessory drive idler gear. Put the camshaft and accessory drive idler gear on engine with timing mark in alignment. Install the thrust washer, lock, and retaining bolts. 5. Using tool (A), install the bearing in camshaft drive idler gear. Put the camshaft drive idler gear on engine with timing mark in alignment. Install the thrust washer, lock, and retaining nuts.6. Position the camshaft drive gear on engine with timing mark in alignment. Install the thrust washer, lock, and retaining bolts.7.
