Illustration 2 g01187124Note: Ring gear (2) must be installed with the chamfered side of the teeth upward. The chamfered side of the gear teeth will be facing toward the starting motor when the flywheel is installed.
Raise the temperature of ring gear (2). Install ring gear (2) on flywheel (3).
Install Tooling (A) in the crankshaft.
Attach a suitable lifting device to flywheel (3). The weight of flywheel (3) is approximately 123 kg (271 lb). Position the flywheel on the crankshaft.
Apply Tooling (B) to the threads of bolts (1) before installation.
Install new bolts (1). Remove Tooling (A). Install remaining bolts (1).
Tighten 12 bolts (1), in a counter clockwise pattern, to a torque of 100 5 N m (74 4 lb ft). Turn bolts (1) an extra 180 5 degrees in the same sequence.
Check the flywheel runout. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Flywheel - Inspect".
