Lifting
Illustration 1 g00103219
Never bend the eyebolts and the brackets. Only load the eyebolts and the brackets under tension. Remember that the capacity of an eyebolt is less as the angle between the supporting members and the object becomes less than 90 degrees. When it is necessary to remove a component at an angle, only use a link bracket that is properly rated for the weight.
Movement of some heavy components requires a hoist and lifting fixtures in order to obtain proper balance and safety. Position the hoist for a level lift of the transmission and use an adjustable lifting beam to lift the transmission. Spreader bar widths should be sufficient for preventing contact with the transmission. All supporting members (chains and cables) should be parallel to each other and perpendicular to the top of the object that is being lifted. Alterations to lifting eyes or fixtures will make the lifting eyes or fixtures obsolete. Use properly rated chains, cables, and slings.

TH48-E80 Transmission
(1) Lifting Points (Four)
(A) Two customer mounting/lifting holes, 3/4-2B Thd x 1.75 inch deep (34 mm), if equipped
The weight of the TH48-E80 Transmission and engine coupling with a dry sump is approximately 2213 kg (4878 lb).
Acceptable lifting points (1) for the TH48-E80 Petroleum Transmission are indicated in Illustration 2. The transmission is designed to sit level on the transmission base.
When lifting use care to avoid damage to externally mounted components such as: ECM, solenoids, wire harnesses, hoses, and sensors.Tying Down
The rear transmission lifting eyes shown in Illustration 2 should be used to tie down the rear of the TH48-E80 Petroleum Transmission. The front of the TH48-E80 Petroleum Transmission can be tied down using an approved strap or chain over the torque converter housing.
