Enabling the Oil Renewal System (ORS)
The ORS can be enabled in the factory or in the field. A factory password is required to enable this feature. This feature is contained in the standard software. A password is not required to install the software. The system must be enabled by Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET). Refer to Special Instruction, REHS1238, "Obtaining Factory Passwords and Software Enabled Attachments". Refer to Special Instruction, REHS1727, "Installation of the Oil Renewal System for Track-Type Tractors" for the D11R.Adjustment of the ORS
The rate of the oil that is metered into the fuel system can be adjusted with Cat ET. The adjustment determines the percent of oil that is metered to the fuel. The adjustment is calculated by the engine's Electronic Control Module (ECM). The adjustment is based on the following factors:
Engine load
Engine oil pressure
Jacket water coolant temperatureA nominal setting of zero is the default setting when the system is initially turned on. For every one gallon of fuel that is burned, 0.5 percent of oil is injected. Only adjust the rate of metering if the S O S Oil Analysis determines that additional adjustment for metering of oil is needed. The ranges for adjustment are from a value of −50 to +50. Entering −50 will decrease the rate by 50 percent. Entering +50 will increase the rate by 50 percent.
Illustration 1 g00707282The following items can have an impact on the adjustment of the ORS and these items may also determine when the ORS is adjusted: the load factor, the typical fuel rate and the consumption of oil. A typical example of the various factors are listed in Table 1.

Reviewing the report from the S O S Oil Analysis will indicate if the metering rate needs to be adjusted. The rate may need to be increased if the limits of the infrared analysis and the wear metals are too high. The following various factors that are specific to the site can affect the limits of the oil condition:
Altitude
Engine hours
