1. Remove bolts (1), then remove drive shaft (2).2. Put parking brake in the "ON" position.3. Lower guard beneath torque converter and transmission. Remove front section of engine crankcase guards.4. Put wood blocks under front wheels.
Typical Example5. Install two 50 ton jacks (3) under bumper as shown. Lift the machine until it is approximately 127 cm (50 in) from ground at rear of bumper. 6. Remove brake hose (5) from brake slack adjuster. Put a plug or cap on this hose.7. Remove lubrication line (4) at front support. Remove lubrication line at rear support.8. Install cables and chains around the tires and rims as shown.
Make sure cables on the back side of the tire do not make contact with final drive when tire is removed.
9. Remove nuts (7), then remove tires and rims (6). The weight of the tire and rim is 3311 kg (7300 lb). 10. Install cables with a hoist around the brake housings on the rear axle housing. Remove eight bolts (9) on each side of the rear support. Remove three bolts and nuts on each side of the front support.
If excessive wear is shown on the front support and if the rear axle housing turns toward front of machine, the front support can slide off the rear axle housing.
11. Lower the rear axle housing (8) on to pads on the floor and remove it from the machine. The weight of the rear axle housing is 6,804 kg (15,000 lb).Install Rear Axle Housing (Oscillating)
1. Put rear axle housing (1) in position under the machine with cables and a hoist. 2. Lift the rear axle housing into position. Make sure the dowels in the rear support are in alignment with the holes in the mounting pads on the machine. Install bolts (2) on each side of the rear support. Install three bolts and nuts on each side of the support. Tighten bolts (2) to a torque of 1125 110 N m (825 80 lb ft). Tighten nuts on the front support to a torque of 1125 110 N m (825 80 lb ft). 3. Remove cap or plug from brake hose (4) and install it on brake slack adjuster. Install lubrication line (3) on the front support. Install lubrication line on the rear support. 4. Install cables and hoist on tire and rim (5). Put the tire and rim in position on the wheel assembly. Install the nuts (6) that hold it. Tighten these nuts to a torque of 1125 110 N m (825 80 lb ft). Lower the machine to its original position. Remove two 50 ton jacks. 5. Install drive shaft (7) with the bolts that hold it. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 470 45 N m (350 35 lb ft).6. Install front section of engine crankcase guards.7.
