Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Turn OFF the fuel supply to the engine.
Remove the exhaust manifold shielding as required.

Remove the protective cover from the lifting brackets. Mark the location of the lifting brackets.
Remove tube assemblies (1). Use Tooling (A) to plug the openings in order to prevent debris from entering the fuel system.
Remove nuts (3).
Remove lifting bracket (2). Note: Store the lifting brackets in a clean dry place. Do not install the lifting brackets until necessary to lift the engine.
Install Tooling (B) on each cylinder head stud. Installation Procedure
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Remove Tooling (B) from each cylinder head stud.
Install the engine lifting brackets on a C280-12 Engine between the following cylinders:
Number 3 Cylinder and Number 4 Cylinder
Number 4 Cylinder and Number 6 Cylinder
Number 9 Cylinder and Number 11 Cylinder
Number 10 Cylinder and Number 12 Cylinder
Install the engine lifting brackets on a C280-16 Engine between the following cylinders:
Number 1 Cylinder and Number 3 Cylinder
Number 2 Cylinder and Number 4 Cylinder
Number 13 Cylinder and Number 15 Cylinder
Number 14 Cylinder and Number 16 Cylinder
Install the engine lifting brackets on a C280-16 Engine with front mounted turbochargers between the following cylinders:
Number 1 Cylinder and Number 3 Cylinder
Number 2 Cylinder and Number 4 Cylinder
Number 11 Cylinder and Number 13 Cylinder
Number 12 Cylinder and Number 14 Cylinder
Apply Tooling (C) on the threads of the cylinder head studs.

Put engine lifting bracket (2) in position on the cylinder head studs. Install nuts (3). Tighten the nuts to a torque of 2150 250 N m (1590 185 lb ft). Note: The brackets must be installed so that the pin holes in the clevis are in a horizontal plane.
Install tube assemblies (1).
If removed, install the exhaust manifold shielding.
Turn ON the fuel supply.
