Excessive ether (starting fluid) can cause piston and ring damage. Use ether for cold weather starting purposes only.
The optional ether starting aid is the only system that is recommended for the injection of starting fluid. The "STARTING AID" switch on the control panel allows the operator to select a Manual or Automatic function. In the AUTOMATIC position, ether will automatically be injected when the Engine Control Switch is in the MAN. START position and the jacket water coolant temperature is less than 21 °C (70 °F).Additional injections may be necessary in order to start the engine. If additional injection is necessary, toggle the "STARTING AID" switch to the MANUAL position. For additional injection, the jacket water coolant temperature must be less than 21 °C (70 °F). The "STARTING AID" switch is a momentary switch. To stop the injection, release the "STARTING AID" switch.
