 Storage Procedures for Commercial Engines
Caterpillar® recommends an ongoing process of identification and monitoring of engines that are at dealerships, customers, OEM's, and storage facilities of the dealers that may require storage and storage preservation. If long-term storages of the engines are required, procedures and recommendations exist to prepare Caterpillar® engines for storage up to 1 year. The engine should be stored in a controlled environment prior to delivery. The storage environment should not have extreme variations in temperature or humidity. The storage environment should prevent exposure to ultraviolet light.Proper storage procedures are required to maintain the service life of the product. Utilize the practices and procedures that are described in Special Instruction, SEHS9031, "Storage Procedure for Caterpillar Products" to ensure the optimum health and durability of the product.Note: Engines that are stored for more than 6 months must be prelubed and rotated in 6-month intervals.Verification of Procedures of Storage
Although verification of storage is not required to maintain the warranty, this does not eliminate the need for proper storage procedures. In the case of a claim for warranty, Caterpillar® may require documentation which proves that the recommended storage procedures were followed. Engines that are damaged by faulty storage or preservation will not be considered to have a factory defect in material or workmanship.
