MID 039 - Machine Control Module CID 3614 - #2 GPS Receiver Antenna (right-hand) FMI 02 - Data Erratic, Intermittent, or Incorrect
Illustration 1 g03394598This diagnostic code is active when the information from the #2 (right-hand) GPS receiver antenna is not communicating properly.Test Step 1. VISUALLY INSPECT THE ANTENNA, CONNECTORS, AND COAXIAL CABLE.
Look over the coaxial cable and the right-hand GPS antenna.Expected Result:The antenna and cable are in good working condition. The cable is free of damage and no pinch points or cuts are found. The antenna is also free of any damage that would impair the antenna form operation. Then connectors are connected, fit snugly, and have an appropriate sealant applied.Results:
OK - The antenna, cable, and connectors are not damaged and connected properly. Proceed to Test Step
NOT OK - A component of the system is damaged.Repair: Repair or replace the damaged components. If replacing a connector, ensure that there is an appropriate sealant used on the connections to prevent corrosion.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE GPS ANTENNA.
Inspect the GPS antenna for physical damage.Check for damage or loose connections.
Temporarily swap the GPS antenna with a working antenna. Observe the status of the diagnostic code.Expected Result:If the GPS antenna is in good working condition. The antenna is free of any damage that would hinder proper operation.If the GPS antenna was damaged and swapped for a known good antenna, the code is no longer active.Results:
OK - The GPS antenna is in good working condition and is free of any damage that would hinder proper operation. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The GPS antenna is damaged or not in working order. Temporarily swapping the GPS antenna resulted in the diagnostic code no longer being active.Repair: Repair or replace the antenna as needed.STOPTest Step 3. CHECK THE STATUS OF THE CODE WITH A SPARE PCS CONNECTED.
Turn the keyswitch and the battery disconnect to the OFF position.
Disconnect the cables from the current PCS.
Place a known good PCS on top of the existing PCS. Connect the cables to the new PCS.
Turn the keyswitch to the ON position and wait 5 minutes (300 seconds).
Check the status of the MID 039 CID 3614 FMI 02 code.Expected Result:The code is no longer active.Results:
OK - The code is no longer active.Repair: The PCS may be faulted in some way and causing the active diagnostic. Contact Cat technical support team for further troubleshooting.STOP
NOT OK - The code is still active. Reconnect the original PCS.Repair: Contact Cat technical support team for further troubleshooting.STOP
