44 - 107-3488 Tips per left side wheel (LH).44 - 107-3487 Tips per right side wheel (RH). Location And Welding Instructions
1. It is possible to locate and weld the tips in place, with the wheel assembly on the machine but it is recommended that the wheel assembly be removed from the machine whenever possible.2. Remove the old tips from the wheel assembly. Clean and grind the area where the welds are to be made.Move the location of the new tips to expose any unworn areas that were underneath the previous tips.3. Separate the new tips into four groups for two RH and two LH wheels. The template indicates how the highest point of each tip should be located toward the tractor side of the wheel. One side of the template locates the tips on the RH wheels and the other side locates the tips on the LH wheels.4. With a sharp razor blade, cut out the tip corners outlined on the template. Position the template at the edge of the wheel. using chalk, pencil, paint or dye, mark the corner locations of tips 1, 2, and 3 onto the wheel. Line up tip 1 on the template over the corner locations of tip 2 marked on the wheel. Mark the corners of tips 4 and 5. Finish locating and marking the remaining tips in the first and second rows.To establish the third row of tips, place the template outlines of tips 1 and 2 over the corners of tips 3 and 5 that have been marked on the wheel. Mark the location of tip 6 onto the wheel. Continue around and across the wheel until all tip locations have been marked. The pattern should develop as shown above.5. Do not weld tips onto wheels with either the tips or wheels below room temperature. As a precaution, Preheat the tips in the area to be welded to 200°C (392°F) prior to welding.6. When welding with a semi-automatic wire feed, use E70T-5 (extra low Hydrogen) cored wire with CO2 gas shielding if the welds can be applied on a horizontal and flat plain. For welding in all positions, use an E71T-1 flux cored wire with hydrogen control and CO2 gas shielding. Wire size; 1.1 mm (0.045 in) or 1.3 mm (0.052 in).If stick welding, use dry E7018 low hydrogen electrodes.7. Weld the tips to the wheel with a 13 mm (0.5 in) fillet weld only along lengths L1 and L2 as illustrated on the template.
Wheels with Traction Tips will damage paved surfaces.
