(4) Test ports Slack adjusters (2) are mounted to a bracket above the rear axle.Slack adjusters (2) compensate for brake disc wear by allowing low-pressure oil to remain between slack adjuster (2) and the brake piston. Slack adjusters (2) maintain a slight pressure on the brake piston at all times.When, the service brake is used or when the retarder lever is used the oil is sent to the ARC/TCS valve. The ARC/TCS valve sends oil to inlet (3) of slack adjusters (2) and is transferred to the brakes in each wheel. This oil initiates the brake application.Brake cooling oil pressure maintains a small clearance between the brake discs. The service brake oil pressure can be tested at pressure tap ports (4) located on top of slack adjusters (2).
