When the front drive shaft is installed, it must be installed in phase with the front axle assembly yoke. The front drive shaft must be installed in phase with the center and rear drive shafts. Serious component damage could occur. Be certain that all the joint groups, all the yokes, and all the lubricating fittings are aligned.

Note: Prior to assembly, wipe the mounting surfaces of the bearing caps and the mounting surfaces of the yoke. Make sure both the mounting surfaces are clean.
Use two people to install front drive shaft (6). The weight of front drive shaft (6) is approximately 34 kg (75 lb).
Position front drive shaft (6) as shown in Illustration 1.
Apply Tooling (A) to the threads of bolts (7) prior to installation.
Install six bolts (7). Tighten bolts (7) to a torque of 270 15 N m (200 11 lb ft).

Install four bolts (5). Tighten bolts (5) to a torque of 80 15 N m (60 11 lb ft). Use the numerical sequence shown in Illustration 2.
In numerical sequence, remove one bolt (5) at a time. Apply Tooling (B) and then apply Tooling (C) to the thread of bolt (5). Install bolt (5) and tighten to a torque of 160 15 N m (120 11 lb ft).
Repeat Step 6 for the remaining bolts (5) .

Install yoke (1) and O-ring seal (2) (not shown).
Apply Tooling (B) and then apply Tooling (C) to the thread of bolt (3) prior to installation.
Install retainer (4) and bolt (3). Tighten bolt (3) to a torque of 120 20 N m (88 15 lb ft).
Lubricate the front drive shaft and drive shaft support bearing. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Drive Shaft Universal Joints, Splines, and Bearings - Inspect/Lubricate".End By:a. Install the center drive shaft. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Drive Shaft (Center) - Remove and Install".b. Remove the steering frame lock. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Steering Frame Lock - Remove and Install".
