Drive Shaft (Center) - Remove and Install
Removal Procedure
Start By:a. Install the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Remove and Install".
Personal injury can result from driveline torque windup under load.Unequal wheel speed can result in driveline torque windup which can cause driveline components to be under load during disassembly.Relieve the driveline torque windup before disassembly.
Lower the worktool to the ground.

Support center drive shaft (2) on suitable wood blocks.
Remove four bolts (4). Remove guard (3) .
Remove four bolts (1) that fasten center drive shaft (2) to the output yoke of the output transfer gears.

Remove four bolts (5) that fasten the center drive shaft (2) to the front drive shaft yoke.
Use two people to remove center drive shaft (1). The weight of center drive shaft (1) is approximately 38 kg (84 lb).Installation Procedure

When the center drive shaft is installed, it must be installed in phase with the front and rear drive shafts. Serious component damage could occur. Be certain that all the joint group, all the yokes, and all the lubricating fittings are aligned.

Note: Prior to assembly, wipe the mounting surfaces of the bearing caps and the mounting surfaces of the yokes. Make sure both the mounting surfaces are clean.
Use two people to install center drive shaft (2) between the front drive shaft yoke and the output yoke of the output transfer gears. The weight of center drive shaft (2) is approximately 38 kg (84 lb).

Install four bolts (1) and four bolts (5). Tighten bolts (1) and bolts (5) to a torque of 80 15 N m (60 11 lb ft). Use the numerical sequence shown in Illustration 4.
In numerical sequence, remove one bolt (5) at a time. Apply Tooling (A) and then apply Tooling (B) to the thread of bolt (5). Install bolt (5) and tighten to a torque of 150 15 N m (110 11 lb ft).
Repeat Step 3 for the remaining bolts (5) .

In numerical sequence, remove one bolt (1) at a time. Apply Tooling (A) and then apply Tooling (B) to the thread of bolt (1). Install bolt (1) and tighten to a torque of 150 15 N m (110 11 lb ft).
Repeat Step 5 for the remaining bolts (1) .
Remove the wood support blocks.
Install guard (3). Install four bolts (4) .
Lubricate the center drive shaft. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Drive Shaft Universal Joints, Splines, and Bearings - Inspect/Lubricate", for the correct lubrication procedure.End By:a.
