Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Ensure that the water pump is clean and free from wear or damage. If necessary, replace the water pump.

If necessary, replace joint (12) and install cover (13) .
Clean the mating surface of cover (8) .
Install Tooling (A) into Position (X) .
Use Tooling (A) in order to align new joint (9) to front cover (8). Install the joint to the cover.
Align water pump (10) to Tooling (A). Install the water pump to front cover (8) .Note: Ensure that the gear of the water pump and the gear of the fuel injection pump mesh.
Install bolts (11). Tighten the bolts (11) finger tight.Note: Ensure that all bolts of different lengths are installed in the correct positions.
Remove Tooling (A) and install remaining bolts (11) .

Tighten bolts (11) in the sequence that is shown. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 22 N m (16 lb ft).

Reposition fan pulley (6) and install bolts (5). Install belt (7). Refer to Operations and Maintenance Manual, "Belts - Inspect/Adjust/Replace".

Install cover (4).

Install hose (3) to water pump (1). Install clamp (2) .
Fill the cooling system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change".
