ALL CATERPILLAR PRODUCTS USING THE 9X-7803 ALTERNATORProblem:
Approximately 81 9X-7803 24 volt, 100 amp alternators were mislabeled as 8C-6163 (12 volt, 105 amp) alternators and were installed on a variety of Caterpillar products. All of these alternators were manufactured as 9X-7803 alternators, and the supplier part number (1117828) was correctly marked on the label. The date code range marked on the label is 97B07 through 97D14.Solution:
Since these alternators were all manufactured properly, they pose no problem with form, fit or functionality as installed on the Caterpillar products. The concern is one of service replacement.
