PROBLEM
Inadequate removal of residual oil and rust preventatives on some surfaces in the factory wash process prior to final painting resulted in peeling or flaking of the paint on certain D6T Track-Type Tractors. The affected areas are limited to the track links and shoes, the rear track roller frame pivot shafts, and the final drive covers.

ACTION REQUIRED
Pressure wash and scrub the affected areas as needed in order to remove peeling or flaking paint. Sand blasting, or a similar process, may be necessary on the undercarriage in some instances to adequately remove flaking paint. Use a suitable cleaner to remove residual oil and rust preventatives in order to properly prepare affected areas for repainting. Repaint the affected areas.
Note: Use caution when pressure washing or blasting the track links to avoid dislodging the cartridge plugs.

The 1.5 hours listed above is for the preparation and repainting of the pivot shafts and final drive covers. If repainting of the undercarriage is required, an additional 7.5 hours is allowed if the removal, handling, and installation of the undercarriage is necessary.
A maximum of $200 U.S. is allowed for materials related to the preparation and repainting of the pivot shafts and final drive covers if required. Include outside expenses at cost. Retain a copy of all invoices for outside expenses in the machine folder for audit purposes.
A maximum additional $2300 U.S. is allowed for labor, material, and other expenses related to the preparation and repainting of the undercarriage if required. Include outside expenses at cost. Retain a copy of all invoices for outside expenses in the machine folder for audit purposes.
