Removal Procedure
Start By:
Install the wheel chocks. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Wheel Chocks (Front and Rear) - Remove and Install".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Personal injury can result from the sudden release of high pressure oil.Be sure the engine has been shut off for a minimum of five minutes to ensure that the accumulator pressure is zero.The accumulator is filled with dry nitrogen. Do not loosen or remove the valve or the cap from the top of the accumulator.
Personal injury can result from hot oil or hot components.At operating temperature, oil is hot and under pressure. Hot oil can cause burns.Remove the fill cap only when the engine is stopped, and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.
Note: Put identification marks on all hose assemblies, on all tube assemblies and on all wire harnesses for installation purposes. Plug all hose assemblies and all tube assemblies. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the removal procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

Position a suitable container under valve assembly (3) in order to contain hydraulic oil for storage or disposal.
Disconnect coil assembly (1) from wire harness (2) at the electrical connection.
Illustration 2 g00497736Note: The hose assemblies have been removed for photographic clarity. The hose assemblies do not need to be removed in order to remove the solenoid.
Remove locknut (4) and the washer in order to remove coil assembly (1) from cartridge assembly (5).
Remove cartridge assembly (5) from valve assembly (3).
Remove the backup ring and the two O-ring seals from cartridge assembly (5). Installation Procedure
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the installation procedure, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble.
Check all of the O-ring seals and the components for wear or damage. Replace the components, if necessary.
Lubricate all of the O-ring seals lightly with the lubricant that is being sealed.

Install the two O-ring seals and the backup ring to cartridge assembly (5).
Install cartridge assembly (5) onto valve assembly (3). Tighten cartridge assembly (5) to a torque of 24 2.7 N m (17.7 2.0 lb ft).
Install coil assembly (1) onto cartridge assembly (5). Install locknut (4) and the washer.
